Twitter is Still Hot
LeBron James’ Twitter account@KingJames had 350,000 followers on the evening he announced he was playing the NBA 2010-2011 season in South Beach as a part of the Miami Thrice (Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh), Wade County, LeBroward County, Bosh Beach County, the Tres Amigos in South Beach or whatever name you want to call them. LeBron opened his Twitter account account only a few days earlier so in 2 or 3 days, he had 350,000 followers. It sounds like despite the volume of spam on Twitter, there are still people using Twitter. I think the NBA 2010 Free Agency in which you had a large community of users interested in rapidly changing information such as “Where is LeBron, Wade or Bosh playing next season?” made Twitter the perfect social media tool for this event. In fact it was another NBA Player Chris Paul that tweeted LeBron James Twitter account and before LeBron posted his first message, he had 25K+ users. In addition, both Dwyane Wade @DwadeOfficial and Chris Bosh @ChrisBosh announced their newsconference on ESPN, just 30 minutes before it aired.

If you are a small business, you should consider using Twitter as a social media tool. At the very least, you should claim your brand or domain on Twitter. It may not be the social media tool for your business right now, but in the future, that might change.

If you are a power phone user or have a business without a phone number, you may consider signing up for Google Voice since it’s now available to the public. It’s also free except for out-bound International callling (alternative to Skype). Here are some benefits:

Free Local DID Number – You get a free local number in your area code.

Call Routing – You could forward your direct office or home phone number to Goolge Voice to give you more control over forwarding. You can configure Google Voice to ring at an unlimited number of destinations.

Cell Phone Number Privacy – If you don’t want to give out your cell phone number, you can give your Google voice number out and forward it to your cell phone.

Blocking – One of the most powerful featues, you can block specififed phone numbers including 800 numbers. The current Telcos don’t allow you to block 800 number so if you’re getting an annyoying 800 number that you want to block, forward it to Google Voice for a few weeks and your problem will be solved.

Text Messaging with Voice Mail Transcription – If you get a voice mail message, you can configure Google Voice to send you a SMS message with the text transcription of the voice mail. This is very cool!

Here’s the Google Voice signup page.

Your should consider your social media links to sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn like stickers on a football helmet such as in the picture above. Are you promoting your profile so that you can increase your company or your personal brand awareness? Here is a list of places you should promote your social media profiles:

Email Footer -Do you have them links in your email footer? See an example below.

Business Card – Do your business cards contain your social media profiles? see an example below

Blog – Does your blog contain links to your social media sites?

Twitter.com – My Profile Page – You can have one website link.

LinkedIn.com – You can enter 3 website links on your LinkedIn profile page.

Facebook.com – Facebook allows ou to put your websites in our contact information as well as your work website. In addition, when you write a Facebook message, if you put your website link in your message footer, FB will import an image with an automatically generated image of your company logo, hopefully the correct one.
